Patio screen doors are an essential part of summer living. Every home or cottage with a deck or patio should have some form of a screen door. There is no better way to bring the great outdoors inside, while leaving bugs and rodents outside where they belong. Screens however, do have some drawbacks and do have need of occasional repairs.
Unless, you live in an environment where mosquitoes and other annoying flying insects don’t thrive, the doors on your home may not need screens. It is nice, however, to have some form of a locking screen door on your home, rather than keep your front door unsafely wide open all day just to let some breeze through the house.
Anyone who owns a sliding patio door, or perhaps a French style patio door, will be familiar with sliding screen doors. These are staple items on all doubled patio doors. These patio doors offer the richest experience with a picture window view of your patio or yard, while offering convenient unrestricted access to your patio or deck.
Screen doors sometimes take a beating, unfortunately, and have to be repaired. One of the most common screen door calamities is when an unsuspecting person walks through the closed door. On days with grey skies, it can be difficult to see the actual screening on the way outside; especially when carrying something and not paying close attention. Often what will happen in these cases is the door may become knocked off and it simply only needs to be refitted in its track. Other times the screen may become stretched or ripped; repairs will then become necessary.
If the screen is stretched, then it will be permanently deformed and replacement is the only solution. If it gets ripped or torn, it can often be patched, if the hole isn’t too big. Screen replacement doesn’t mean that the entire door must be replaced. Often the manufacture makes it easy to remove and replace the existing screen. This can be a lifesaver, as finding replacement screen doors specific to you patio door set can be difficult and expensive.
